Description: ‘Gulfbeauty’ appears to have a high heat requirement for breaking dormancy; however it is adapted to the central and north Florida winter climate, and has heavy annual crop loads requiring fruit thinning to size fruit properly and prevent limb breakage. ‘Gulfbeauty’ is an efficient pollinizer for ‘Gulfruby’ (unpatented), ‘Gulfblaze’ (U.S. Patent PP10,873), and ‘Gulfrose’ (U.S. Patent PP12,833), as all require cross-pollination. Fruit of ‘Gulfbeauty’ are firm, light yellow flesh with deep red sour skin, and clingstone with good eating quality. ‘Gulfbeauty’ has a higher degree of resistance in leaves, twigs, and fruit to bacterial leaf spot (Xanthomonas campestris) than does ‘Gulfruby’, with moderate resistance to plum leaf scald (caused by Xylella fastidiosa), while fruit of ‘Gulfbeauty’ are highly resistant to sun scald, concentric skin cracks, and split stones.
