Alstroemeria Cultivars

Alstroemeria varieties developed at the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, an agricultural and natural resource research program of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), are patented, and a license is required for propagation.  Anyone buying 'Las Olas' should make sure that the seller is a licensed propagator.  Any violations should be reported to Florida Foundation Seed Producers, Inc.  If your company is interested in licensing alstroemeria varieties, please contact the Florida Foundation Seed Producers, Inc.

'Las Olas' - US PP11944

A semi-dwarf cutflower-quality alstroemeria with a flowering season lasting from April to July under south Florida conditions.  Unlike most commercial alstroemeria cultivars, 'Las Olas' (PP11944) exhibits remarkable heat tolerance, and has survived south Florida's subtropical, monsoonal summers in the field under open shade cloth, despite occasional heavy rains.  'Las Olas' (PP11944) can thus be grown for local markets by growers in hot climates with minimal infrastructure.  The semi-dwarf stature of the plant also allows for production as a container plant and use as a garden herbaceous perennial in mild climates.
